Following successfully being awarded “best for office design UK” I asked Julie Anderson the Design Director of Rap how she achieved her success in business…

“How does technology & IT contribute to your success in business?”

This was Julie’s response;

“IT” in todays world is essentially more important than a company car!

Success in Business? You can still conduct business without a car with the use of Skype, e-mail, and remote logins. So our world has changed drastically. We used to have an appointed “IT”person in our company ( not necessarily someone who was an IT specialist ) but someone we could shout for inside the office!

Perhaps not the best option but I think its how we all start out in business. However, we soon became convinced to use managed IT support services and haven’t looked back. Now if something goes wrong we either ring and report the problem or e-mail the problem and on average within 15-20 mins our problems are resolved without interrupting other staff & with minimum fuss.

Using Managed IT Services has released our staff to work on their role within the business & not be distracted by frustrating IT issues. With proactive support from our out sourced IT company our computer issues have been banished and our machines now run efficiently, making a difference to our productivity and performance, which has been key to succeeding with our projects, which are often time sensitive.

Since the evolution of Design software which we have purchased we are able to create amazing Designs for our clients – so they can make informed decisions on the look and layout of their new workspace – but even better than that we can e-mail them a remote login to our software and virtually show them round the visuals without even leaving the office – if they prefer.

Digital Communication Brings Efficiency

Our staff are all educated on correct use of e-mail and internet, with both internal and external communication being critical for project management, procurement and efficiency. Using e-mail securely and sensibly, understanding data, size, growth and management has been a contributing factor to our efficiency, aided by our IT Service company providing great advice, assistance and tutorials for our staff.

Disaster Recovery Gives Peace of Mind

Managed IT is something we couldn’t live without. Often the company vehicles maybe being serviced and sometimes they break down and then we have to wait for at least a week to be fixed. But our “IT” is fixed in a matter of minutes. Thanks to J&J systems who now manage our internet connections as well, our services are all in one place, making our life far simpler. We can sleep at night knowing that our data is not only backed up but our Server also has full offsite replication and a full Disaster Recovery plan giving us use of the Disaster Recovery Suite at J & J’s offices for up to six staff in the event of a business disaster, such as fire, flood or utility failure.
